"Gunshots rang out... bang, bang out" (c) Jamal

"Rambo" was exactly what I expected it to be... gun fire and blood.

I could sit here and tear apart the movie with regard to it's representation of the issues that exist in Thailand/Burma like many of the reviews i've read, but for real... it's Rambo. At this point in this franchise, if you are looking for a deep discussion on socio/political issues go see a different movie.

I laughed...

"RRRRRROAW RRRRRRROAW like a dungeon dragon" (c) Busta Rhymes

"Cloverfield" was fresh. It played out exactly how it should have. The story and the cast were dope. So much fun.

"A travellin man, movin through places" (c) Mos Def

I want to take a trip around the world.

Hop on a jet and fly down to Rio De Janeiro. Just to stand above the world under Christ the Redeemer and look out over that amazing city. And maybe hit a beach or two.

Then hop a jet to Cairo. Just to stand on the bank of the Nile. And set foot on the Giza Plateau and watch the sun fade behind the Great Pyramid.

Then catch a flight to Tokyo. Just to stand in downtown Tokyo at night while it is lit up like a neon sign.

And I want to do all of that in 2 weeks.

I told a friend this idea one time and she said I was crazy because I would spend a week of that on jets flying from place to place. But see she missed the point and failed to think about how I live my life. See I don't want to go some place and spend 2 weeks "seeing everything." I get bored waaaay to quickly regardless of where I am. I would rather travel to a place for only 2-3 days, see what I want to see at this time and then bounce knowing someday I will come back to see the rest of it. It would be a much more interesting trip to be able to say that I was in Brazil, Egypt and Japan in two weeks rather than say I was only in one. Maybe that's just me.

"The land of the free..." (c) Kam

For the hell of it, I just watched this movie:

For real, I haven't seen this flick since it was released in '86 when I was 5 years old, but I'll be damned if I didn't remember most of the stories and characters. It is still one of the best non-Disney animated movies released over the years. Although, the writers of this one really should have gone to history class a little more often.

The thing that I did kind of forget about was how dark/violent some of the scenes are... some of the cats, mice, raids, fire, etc... are drawn in a very non-kid friendly style. You really wouldn't see many of these things in the very glossy animated movies of today. Alot of the darker images reminded me of this flick, which was released by Disney in '85:

"The Black Cauldron" was a dark animated movie, especially for Disney. I mean the main villian (and honestly i think one of Disney's best) was the demonic looking Horned King, who used dead people and ghosts as his army. It was quite daring to spend $25 million to make this movie (but only earned $10 million at the box office). Not surprisingly, this movie has been cut, chopped and re-edited to the point where the movie no longer makes sense and has been thrown deep in the Disney vaults along with this movie:

because of things like this...

and filed under the category of "We should have thought twice about that one."

Honestly, I miss animated movies like "An American Tail" and "The Black Cauldron" because I think a lot of the animated movies of today have become to stale and glossy - basically 1D. Regardless of how good or bad these flicks were they had emotions and a little more depth, which is needed today.
