Sometimes I will watch movies that I consider "Art House" films. These are not just independent movies, but more so films that require you to actually think because everything is nice spelled out. "Lust, Caution" is definitely one of those films.
I went to see "Lust, Caution" because in the few reviews I glanced at it was a spy/assassination story set in Japanese occupied China in the 1940s. Truth is... that is like 1/4th of the story. This is a true "Art House" film because it is really about emotion... more so emotion that isn't really vocalized. The main one, as the title suggests, being lust... raw and uncut. The noir style of the film makes this even more interesting. You really have to pay attention to the emotions on the screen to get the entire story (which is tough to do because it is a Chinese film, with subtitles and clocking in at 174 minutes). At its root is is a basic assassination story... get into the organization... gain trust... set-up the hit. But the passion between the two main characters is the real story. The "adult" aspects to the movie (hence the NC-17 rating) might make some people uncomfortable, but the emotions that Tony Leung and Wei Tang display in those scenes are more real than anything i've seen in a few years. Yes, Ang Lee could have cut some of those scenes down, but we're all adults and he was purposely trying to display those types of emotions, so they were justified. In the end you are left thinking about their relationship in relation to everything else in the film and if it was that important to risk what they did.

Some day I might end up going broke in a record story. I'm kind of funny when it comes to money. If I am purchasing anything over $50.00 I will think about it... for some time. I will make sure it is worth purchasing. Like I will walk into a sneaker spot, and if i see a pair i like, but ones that aren't super amazing, i will think about it... maybe for weeks... even if the sneakers are only $60.00. It comes from how I grew up... so it is hard to explain. BUT when it comes to records. I will drop between $50.00 and $100.00 without thinking twice. See only purchase records that mean something to me. Music is a huge part of my life and the stuff I buy reminds me of various parts of my life. But really alot of the stuff I buy are old records that you don't see that often, so really it is basically like either I buy this now or i might not see it for another 5-10 years. What can I say... *shrugs*

"Pushing Dasies" is one of the most original TV shows I've seen in a long time. Original, cinematic, and creative... i hope the ratings are good or it will end up like "Arrested Development," "Freaks and Geeks" and so many other great shows.
