"Buggin Out" (c) A Tribe Called Quest

Question of the week: Can a Non-profit porn site be successful?

What if the site exists to empower and celebrate female sexuality and agrees to give all ad revenue to women's charities?

I was introduced to this idea earlier today, and it sounded like one of the weirdest ideas ever. And after seeing the site in question... i still don't quite get it. The idea and the execution don't really work together... and i'm not sure that it really could. I mean I came up with some ideas for it, but in the end I kept asking...

What charities would the money go to? And isn't it sort of a clash of ideas to use that type of media to raise money for that type of thing?

I'm not trying to knock anyone's hustle/ideas... i'm just sayin

"Teeth" is a very awkward movie. It had sooooooo much potential to be one of those weird/funny/over-the-top movies, but it is really misexecuted. It did have some humorous moments. I'm trying to figure out if the acting was bad on purpose or if the cast really can't act.

THIS should never.... ever... happen. Seriously.

"This is that new sh*t" (c) Pharrell

I have listened to Common's new joint "Universal Mind Control" feat. Pharrell about 40 times in a row this morning (as well as like 10 times last night)... it is very "Planet Rock" / "Looking for the Perfect Beat" -esque, but without sounding like it was released in '82.

I've got a feeling that Invincible Summer is going to be fresh!

One of my favorite summer treats is the Root Beer Float. So when I saw this in the store yesterday, I was like "Root beer float in a bottle... dope. Lemme try it!"

The tasting went like this:
I guess the "artificial root beer and ice cream flavor" should have been a clue. I've tasted some strange things in my day, such as rose water (which is exactly as it sounds), but this shit left a nasty taste in my mouth.

Oh well... "you've got to live and learn" (c) Joe Public

I still think the label design was fresh tho.

Real talk... I care about politics, but this years Presidential Election is pretty much the prefect example of media overkill. At this point, I seriously don't want to hear Clinton, Obama, McCain or any political analyst say another muthafuckin word until at least Oct 1st. Right now I don't want any of them to be president cause I'm already tired of all the bullshit they are talkin. Here is the reality it will basically take whoever ends up in that office until the end of their first term to even get us back to something remotely normal after everything Bush has done. Overexposure is killing this election, which isn't good.

I think we all need to take an extended summer break. (I know the conventions are in August... zzzzzzzzzzzzz) Then we will regroup at the end of September like we are going back to school, and maybe by that time we will have forgotten all of their bullshit (like when we were in school), and so that their new bullshit can sound brand new. Bad idea?

My absolute favorite moment is music is when the drums kick in on "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. Those drums are hard and still kick more than most!

Under most lighting, the hair on the top of my head (or rather what is left of it) look gray or really really blond... i'm not sure how i feel about this.

Even tho most of it is computer generated, wouldn't it be hilarious if there were actually people sitting in front of computers sending out Spam emails? Imagine them having to come up with new subjects like these for every message they send out:

"She will taste more of you"

"Gun her good gun her well"

"Boobs so big it spills over"

"I was'horny'"

"no more squirt squirt whoops love, last longer in bed!"

On a different not, are there actually people who open these emails thinking they are going to be really informational? Like who is sitting there saying, "Yes, i do have some "squirt squirt whoops love" issues. Maybe this will be helpful"???

Getting a permit at the Building Department is like a legal trial. Evidence is presented and either party tries to argue if it is or isn't acceptable. And in the end you either walk free with the permit or you are given a mistrial and have to start again.

Most of the time when I'm listening to Hip Hop these days there is one quote that keeps popping up in my mind: "You've got to have style. Be original." (c) The Blastmatser KRS-One

The other day I was talking to my homegirl at work about the state of design and art today. For the most part we were talking about how it seems like a good majority of design, art and music seems half-assed. Liked people are scared to try something really new. We eventually got to the subject of Hip Hop. She kinda feels the same way that most people feel today, which is that Hip Hop sucks on the mainstream level. For the past few years I've heard a lot of people say Hip Hop sucks or Hip Hop is dead... hell I've said it a few times. But the truth is that Hip Hop isn't dead... it is just missing "effort."

A lot of people say I'm stuck in the Golden Era because I still consider many of those emcees, producers and DJs to be the best that ever did it. Real talk i don't want to go back to 88-95. We had that time... we can never get back to the feeling of that time... what I want is for rappers, producers and DJs to put some effort in this again. A lot of people feel like: Spit a few clever lines x a simple drum track = I got money!! It is true that over the past 10 years this has been the formula for success by many, but at the same it it has made a lot of people feel like this shit has become pointless after all the years so many people worked to make this an orginal/challenging art form. There is a lot of dope Hip Hop out there, but sadly it gets crushed by the half-assed bullshit that the mainstream seems to accept. Mentally I'm from a time when if you weren't trying to make something fresher than the next (instead of just copying)... you were wack. period. Thats the point. Hip Hop is long from being dead because there are many many artists still putting in the effort to make something dope... i'm just hoping that sometime soon the mainstream recognizes it.

"Did you just order tofu?!" (c) Pac Div

Some of my favorite new(ish) artists/groups...

Pacific Division

U-N-I

Blu

Okay, so Blu isn't exactly THAT new... "Below The Heavens" was one of the best last year, but I felt like mentioning him because all three of these artist have something in common... L.A.
I'm so happy that L.A. is finally coming with something again. Of course there is still the standard Cali G-swag with Crooked I and a few others, but these cats are bringing something refreshing. All three of these are bringing simply dope music and that it what people need right now.
-----------------------------------------------------------
On a completely different note... what are your favorite albums to listen to on a refreshing sunny day?
For me, one of my favorite groups of all time is Outkast. I love their entire catalogue. I love how far Dre and Big have expanded over time. But whenever I think of Outkast, my mind always goes straight to Southernplaylisticadillacmuzik. I still prefer that album to everything else they have done. I'm not trying to argue that it is their best album. For me it is simply a refreshing sound that still stands tall to this day. It never sounds dated to me, which means I can bump it today like it just dropped yesterday. I play that album whenever I just want to be in a good mood.

K.R.E.A.M. (c) U-N-I

"Uh Uh Ooooh" (c) Lauryn Hill...

So... I finally got some new sneakers. I had to put aside my Adidas and Puma mentality and cop a pair of Nikes. These are by no means the freshest kicks on the planet, but they work for me for right now.

Some people might say they are boring cause they are a simple white-black-gray colorway. But for real, I think they look better than a lot of sneakers out right now.

Truthfully, I've always loved sneakers. Most people wouldn't realize that because i keep it really simple, such as shelltoes or Romas, but there is alway a little twist to make them different than the average. Like white/white shells instead of white with black stripes, or a little perforation... the point is that it is more the details that impress me than the overall impact. I'll buy some freshtodeath sneakers when I find a pair that actually impresses me.

See I hate that sneakers have become very pop culture. It used to be a more underground world of people who appreciate the design aspects of it. Now you have all these people who two years ago wouldn't have bought anything more than K-Swiss trying to rock a fresh limited edition pair of Jordans. And if you ask them who Tinker Hatfield is, they look at you like you just asked them to explain how a jet engine works. I hate following the crowd, so you won't really catch me doing what others do. Just because having fly kicks is whats hot right now doesn't mean that I'm going to listen. So I will keep it real basic for now until the day comes that I decide it is time for me to be a little more flashy. And hopefully by then all the toys will move on to some other trend.
