That is the question that hit me as I was walking in North Beach yesterday... specifically when I hit Broadway. I haven't walk down Broadway in a minute or really been up to North Beach either, which is why I was there... so i kinda forgot how it look up there. Seriously, from Columbus to Kearny there must be at least 4 porn shops amd 3-4 strip clubs (probably more cause i wasn't really counting). For real... doesn't that seem a bit excessive? One main question in my mind was how the hell do they all stay in business? They all pretty much sell the exact same stuff, so why have three on the same block? I mean I guess if you go into one and they don't have "Bigtittiedinteracialdeepthroatbukkakecumfest Vol.15" you have the convenience of going RIGHT next door and seeing if they have it... but it still seem ridiculous. Same goes for the strip clubs... I mean I guess they can specialize in different types of performers, but in the end it is still all the same, so again do they really need 4 in 2 blocks? Having that much porn around just feels dirty. Not is a freaky-sexy kinda way, but more so in a i-need-to-take-a-shower-just-cause-i-was-on-this-block kinda way. I'm surprised people even visit this area cause it doesn't have a good vibe to it. I was laughing the whole time i was walking down the blocks cause it is just stupid. Apparently they're all making money, so what can you say.
On another porn shop related note... why do porn shops still exist today? I mean you can buy/download everything these days from your computer, so what is the need to go to one? Okay, true not everyone is technologically inclined, so it makes sense why some exist, but still... I ain't gonna lie... i've been in a number of porn shops... mostly to see the ridiculous shit created that people will actually buy (and for real... there is some ridiculous shit out there... hahaha). (hell, when i first moved to SF and was looking for jobs, i interviewed with a porn distibution company, which some of the people closest to me had issues with for reasons i forget... to me it was just a job. this world is interesting because it is a multibillion dollar business that people will not admit to supporting. Straight up, i'm an adult and i will research/discuss anything, so to me this shit is nothing major... it is just one more thing on a long list of subjects i have studied.) I also understand that people don't want to buy stuff like this online... or they would rather pick up stuff in person... or it is a couple making an adventure out of buying a new toy/dvd... so there are a number of reasons for the physical shops to exist i guess. Truthfully, I think that many these shops need to be redesign cause they all look exactly the same and never look very appealing. They always seem kinda dirty for some reason. Yes, there is the social stigma around this stuff, which adds to this, so i understand, but they could also try something different. I mean Good Vibrations is a good example because they created a cleanly designed business, and make extra efforts to push past the social stigmas. So there are places trying something different.
Straight up is does amaze me that this is a multibillion dollar industry that people will not admit to supporting... unless it is the "hip" thing to do. It is funny to see people walk into shops like this - head down - no eye contact - hoping no one they know sees them. Be an adult... if you're too embarrassed to be seen with this stuff... DON'T go into these shops. It's that easy... hahaha.
Oh and yes... i know of this shit is ridiculous and pointless, but i just felt like sharing. *shrug* Sorry to anyone shocked at me talking about this stuff.
